The dwelling price index in Q3 down by 0.5% from Q2

          Märt Umbleja, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that the last time the dwelling price index fell compared with the previous quarter was in the third quarter of 2023. “Compared with the second quarter of 2024, the prices of apartments decreased by 1% in areas bordering Tallinn and in Tartu and Pärnu cities, and by 7.7% in the rest of Estonia. In Tallinn, apartment prices continued to rise, increasing by 0.9% from the previous quarter,” Umbleja noted.           According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2023, there were 12,040 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 8.7% less than in the same quarter last year. A little under 6,000 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.
            
          Number of people living in absolute poverty rose by two and a half times

          According to Statistics Estonia, 22.5% of Estonia’s population lived at risk of poverty and 3.5% in absolute poverty in 2022. Compared with 2021, the share of people living at risk of poverty decreased by 0.3 percentage points and the share of people living in absolute poverty increased by 2.1 percentage points.

          The turnover volume declined in stores selling manufactured goods and grocery stores, as well as in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel. Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that taking into account the data for August, the turnover volume of retail trade enterprises has been falling for 24 months in a row now. “The drop in the volume of retail trade turnover in August was mainly due to stores selling manufactured goods and grocery stores, as the turnover volume of each decreased by 4% year on year,” Pihlak added.
