On 4 May, Statistics Estonia begins the economic sentiment surveys that show how secure Estonian residents feel financially and how enterprises see the future of their business activities.

GDP flash estimate: the economy grew by 1.3% in Q1

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2026, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.3% compared with the same period of 2025.

HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.9% in April

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, increased by 0.9% compared with March. Compared with April last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on April prices are received.

Statistics Estonia will start conducting business and consumer surveys

Starting from May 2026, Statistics Estonia will conduct business and consumer surveys, used to assess economic confidence among enterprises and consumers.

According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2013 compared to May of the previous year, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises increased 7% at constant prices. In April the retail sales increased 5% compared to the same month of the previous year, while in May the retail sales growth accelerated to some extent.

Statistics Estonia presents the publication on the 2011 census

Statistics Estonia will present today, on 28 June the publication “Pilte rahvaloendusest. Census Snapshots” which provides an overview of the results of the 2011 Population and Housing Census and reflects some newer aspects revealed during the last Census.

PHC 2011: three quarters of the inhabitants are native population

According to the data of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011), 75.2% of Estonian residents are native population.

Last year the annual average gross wages (salaries) increased in all economic activities

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2012, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 887 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 5.34 euros. Compared to 2011, the average monthly gross wages and salaries grew 5.7% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries 6.0%.

In April the foreign trade turned to the growth

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2013, exports of goods increased by 6% and imports by 8% at current prices compared to April of the previous year. While the foreign trade declined in February and March compared to the previous year, then as of April, the trade increased. The increase in trade was mainly influenced by machinery and equipment.

In April more domestic tourists and fewer foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments compared to the previous year

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2013, 192,000 foreign and domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 6% less than in the same month of the previous year. The number of domestic tourists increased and the number of foreign tourists decreased.

In the 1st quarter the economic growth rate slowed down

According to the second estimates of Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2013 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.1%.
