On 4 May, Statistics Estonia begins the economic sentiment surveys that show how secure Estonian residents feel financially and how enterprises see the future of their business activities.

GDP flash estimate: the economy grew by 1.3% in Q1

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2026, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.3% compared with the same period of 2025.

HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.9% in April

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, increased by 0.9% compared with March. Compared with April last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on April prices are received.

In October, trade increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2017, the exports and imports of goods increased both by 11% compared to October 2016. This year Finland has been the most important trade partner for Estonia. In October, exports to Finland increased by 18% and imports from Finland by 15%.

The quantity of pesticides placed on the market in Estonia increased in 2016

According to Statistics Estonia, 834 tonnes of pesticides (by active substance) were placed on the market in Estonia in 2016, which is 17% more than in the previous year. The quantity of sold pesticides continues to increase.

In November, the consumer price index was affected the most by food and motor fuel

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in November 2017 was 0.5% compared to October 2017 and 4.2% compared to November of the previous year.

In the 3rd quarter, the number of job vacancies increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2017, there were approximately 12,700 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is the highest number of job vacancies in recent years.

In October, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, 271,100 domestic and foreign tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Estonia in October 2017, which is 1% more than in October 2016.

In October, turnover growth of retail trade enterprises continued

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2017, compared to October of the previous year, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 2% at constant prices.

Expenditure on research and development decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, the expenditure on research and development (R&D) in Estonia amounted to 270.3 million euros, which is 11% less than in 2015.

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2017, the production of industrial enterprises increased 6% compared to October 2016. Production increased in mining and quarrying but decreased in the energy sector.

In the 3rd quarter, year-over-year growth in average wages and salaries continued to accelerate

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2017, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,201 euros, having increased 7.4% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2016. The year-over-year growth in wages and salaries accelerated for the second consecutive quarter.

The profit of the business sector decreased in the 3rd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2017, the total profit of the business sector was 787 million euros, which is 8% less than in the same period the year before.

Construction volume increased in the 3rd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2017 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries increased 20%. Taking into account only Estonian construction market, construction volume increased 27%.
