Producer price index of industrial output
The producer price index of industrial output expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for exports.
The service producer price index expresses changes in the prices of services supplied by Estonian service providers.
The weights system of the producer price indices and the base prices used for calculations are updated by Statistics Estonia every year. The weights system corresponds to the sales structure of enterprises in the year before the last. The base prices used for the calculation of the producer price indices are the prices of December of the year preceding the reference year.
Data for the calculation of the producer price indices are collected with a sample survey from enterprises who receive turnover from the production of the relevant products or the provision of the relevant services as their principal or secondary activity.
Price indices are necessary for calculating various indicators used to monitor the development of the Estonian economy, such as the gross domestic product (GDP) and several volume indices (e.g. the volume index of industrial production). The indices are also used to update various contractual fees.
