Statistics Estonia's short-term labour market statistics show that over the past year and a half, there have been fewer young people aged 20–29 working in both the broader information and communication sector and the more specific field of computer programming. While in previous years the field of computer programming was growing mainly because of young people, in the past year their numbers have fallen.

Sown area of potatoes smaller than ever before

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia and the Agricultural Registers and Information Board (ARIB), the utilised agricultural area this year is 983,400 hectares, which is 4,400 hectares less than in 2023. There has been a slight decrease in arable land, as well as in the area of fruit and berry plantations. The sown area of potatoes, which has been in decline for a long time, continues the trend and is 8% smaller in 2024 than the year before.

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 193,000 foreign and domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia, which was 13% more than in the same period a year ago. The number of foreign tourists increased the most.

New trade record was set in April

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2011, the exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 1.1 billion euros and imports to Estonia to 1.2 billion euros at current prices. Exports as well as imports of goods exceeded the highest turnover so far or the turnover of March this year. According to the second estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased by 8.5% in the 1st quarter of 2011 compared to the same quarter in the previous year. The GDP growth has gradually accelerated since the 2nd quarter of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, the consumer price index increased 0.1% in May 2011 compared to April and has increased 5.4% compared to May of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2011 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries grew 34%, of which 29% on domestic market.
