GDP flash estimate: the economy grew by 1.3% in Q1

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2026, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.3% compared with the same period of 2025.

HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.9% in April

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, increased by 0.9% compared with March. Compared with April last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on April prices are received.

Statistics Estonia will start conducting business and consumer surveys

Starting from May 2026, Statistics Estonia will conduct business and consumer surveys, used to assess economic confidence among enterprises and consumers.

The quantity of pesticides placed on the market in Estonia increased in 2015

According to Statistics Estonia, 691 tons of pesticides (by active substance) were placed on the market in Estonia in 2015, which was 15% more than in the previous year. The quantity of sold pesticides has been increasing in the last five years.

The monthly change of the consumer price index was influenced the most by increased food prices

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in November 2016 was 0.1% compared to October 2016 and 1.0% compared to November of the previous year.

The profit of the business sector decreased in the 3rd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2016, the total profit of the business sector was 856 million euros, which was 4% less than in the same period a year before.

Expenditure on research and development increased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2015 the expenditure on research and development (R&D) in Estonia amounted to 302.8 million euros, which was 6% more than in 2014.

In October, the volume of industrial production was greater than a year ago

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2016, the production of industrial enterprises increased 5% compared to October of the previous year. Production increased in manufacturing and the energy sector, but decreased in mining and quarrying.

In October, the turnover growth of retail trade enterprises decelerated slightly

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2016 compared to October 2015, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 2% at constant prices. The deceleration in turnover growth was influenced the most by enterprises engaging in the retail sales of automotive fuel.

Construction volumes stayed on the level of the previous year in the 3rd quarter

to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2016 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries increased 0.5%.

In the 3rd quarter, the rise in average wages and salaries continued to decelerate

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2016, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,119 euros. Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2015, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased 7.1%. The year-over-year growth in average monthly gross wages and salaries was slightly slower than in the previous quarter.

The producer price index of industrial output increased in October

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2016, the producer price index of industrial output changed by 1.6% compared to September 2016 and by 0.8% compared to October 2015.

The number of persons active in the labour market continued increasing

According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate was 7.5% and the employment rate was 66.5% in the 3rd quarter of 2016. The labour force participation rate increased by 1 percentage point compared to the same quarter of the previous year and the number of inactive working-age people is on a downtrend.

The first trial census of the register-based population census is now in its summary stage

Today, on 14 November, Statistics Estonia presented an overview on how the trial census of the Register-Based Population and Housing Census was carried out and what the results of the trial census revealed about the presence and quality of dwelling data in registers.
