On 4–5 June, the Eurostat committee estimating the correspondence of the methodology of Member States’ financial statistics to the international standards will visit Statistics Estonia.

According to Statistics Estonia, compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year, the number of children living in jobless households increased two times.

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2009 compared to April of the previous year, the production of industrial enterprises decreased 34%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2009 compared to April of the previous year the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises decreased 15% at constant prices.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2009 compared to the same period of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises decreased about a third.

According to Statistics Estonia, the cinema attendance of domestic films as well as cinemas’ gross box income has increased five times during the last five years.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2009, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 12,147 kroons and the hourly gross wages and salaries were 76.53 kroons. Compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were by 1.5% lower and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were by 2.4% higher. Since 1993, the average monthly gross wages and salaries decreased for the first time as compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in March exports of goods from Estonia at current prices declined by one fifth and imports to Estonia by one third compared to March of the previous year. The decline in both exports and imports slowed down.

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2009 the producer price index decreased 0.3% compared to March and did not change compared to April 2008.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 the attendance of Estonian museums was 1,540 visits per thousand inhabitants. The museum attendance that had been at a low level after the re-independence of Estonia has significantly increased during the last decade.

According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate rose to 11.4% in the 1st quarter of the current year. The number of employed persons decreased by 44,000 during the year.

According to Statistics Estonia, by flash estimations, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia decreased by 15.6% in Estonia in the 1st quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter in the previous year.
