According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in June 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists in Estonia, increased by 1.1% compared with May. Compared with June last year, the HICP rose by 5.2%.

In the first quarter, the number of bus passengers grew the most on urban lines

According to Statistics Estonia, 49.9 million passengers used transport services provided by Estonian enterprises in the first quarter of 2025, which is 2% less than in the same period last year. Buses carried 41.6 million and trains 1.9 million passengers. Compared with the first quarter of 2024, bus use increased by 4%, while passenger train use remained unchanged. In the first quarter, the number of bus passengers on urban lines rose by 6% compared with the same quarter last year.

eSTAT is replaced by a new self-service environment

Starting from 12 June, data can be submitted to Statistics Estonia in the new self-service environment at uuringud.stat.ee. To make data submission as easy and convenient as possible, all questionnaires will be updated in the new environment. Currently, only some of the questionnaires have been updated, however, the goal is to update all enterprise questionnaires by the end of 2026.

HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.1% in May

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in May 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists in Estonia, increased by 0.1% compared with April. Compared with May last year, the index rose by 4.6%.

Statistics Estonia started to employ enumerators for the pilot Census of REL 2011

Statistics Estonia started to employ enumerators for the pilot Census of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (REL 2011). The total of 24 persons will be employed to enumerate the population.

The census rehearsal of the 2011 Population Census will begin on the last day of the year

According to Statistics Estonia, the pilot Census of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (REL 2011) will take place in nine local governments of Estonia from 31 December until 31 March. The organisation, methodology and information system of the Census will be tested. For the first time the opportunity for electronic enumeration on the Internet is provided.

In October the number of foreign tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2009 113,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 3% more than in the same month of the previous year.

In October the foreign trade decreased

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in October 2009 exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 8.9 billion kroons at current prices and imports to Estonia made up 9.8 billion kroons. Compared to October of the previous year as well as to September this year the foreign trade decreased.

Decrease of the GDP decelerated in the 3rd quarter

According to the first estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia decreased by 15.6% in the 3rd quarter of 2009 compared to the same quarter in the previous year. The GDP decreased successively for seven quarters, still the decrease decelerated in the 3rd quarter.

The decline in business sector continues

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2009, the net sales, total costs and total profit of the business sector decreased compared to the previous quarter as well as to the same quarter of the previous year.

Consumer price index decreased in November

According to Statistics Estonia, the consumer price index decreased 2.1% in November 2009 compared to November of the previous year, and 0.2% compared to October of the current year.

Research and development expenditure has tripled during five years

According to Statistics Estonia, 3.2 billion kroons were spent on research and development in Estonia in 2008. This amount is over three times more compared to 2003.

The Government approved the official statistics programme for the next year

According to Statistics Estonia, today the Government of the Republic approved the list of official statistical surveys for the year 2010.

In October the decrease in retail sales continued

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2009 compared to October of the previous year the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises decreased 17% at constant prices. Since July the decrease in retail sales has been relatively stable compared to the same month of the previous year.

The decrease in industrial production slowed down a little

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2009 compared to October of the previous year, the production of industrial enterprises decreased 21%. In the earlier months of this year, the decrease remained within 30% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The construction market in the stable decline

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2009 compared to the same period of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises decreased 29%. In the 1st quarter of the present year the production was 31% and in the 2nd quarter 28% smaller than a year ago.
