HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.5% in November

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in November 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 0.5% compared with October. Compared with November last year, the HICP rose by 4.7%. This is a flash estimate, which will be refined once more detailed data on November prices are received.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2019, milk production increased by 3% and meat production by 5%, while egg production was smaller than ever. Compared to 2018, the number of dairy cows, sheep and poultry decreased, while the number of pigs increased.

Producer price index continued to fall in December

According to Statistics Estonia, in December, the producer price index of industrial output fell by 0.9% compared to November and by 1.2% compared to December 2018.

Rise of the construction price index was driven by wage pressure and higher prices of materials

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2019, the construction price index increased by 1.9% compared to the average of 2018. In the 4th quarter of 2019, compared to the 3rd quarter, the construction price index changed by 0.5%, and compared to the 4th quarter of 2018, by 1.7%.

Immigration has been driving population growth for five years

According to Statistics Estonia, the preliminary estimate of the population of Estonia as at 1 January 2020 was 1,328,360, which is 3,540 persons more than at the same time a year ago.

In November last year, trade continued to decline

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2019, compared to November 2018, the exports and imports of goods decreased by 10%. Trade declined in most commodity sections.

The number of tourists in accommodation establishments continues to grow

According to Statistics Estonia, 262,000 tourists stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments in November 2019. The total number of nights spent was 479,000. 56% of the tourists were foreign tourists and 44% were domestic tourists.

In December, the biggest impact on the consumer price index came from transport and housing

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in December 2019 was -0.3% compared to November 2019 and 1.8% compared to December 2018.

Food contributed the most to the year-on-year change of the consumer price index

According to Statistics Estonia, the consumer price index increased by 2.3% in 2019 compared to the average of 2018.

Industrial production and sales for export decreased

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2019, the production of industrial enterprises decreased by 7% compared to November 2018. Production decreased in manufacturing as well as in energy and mining.

Turnover of retail trade enterprises increased also in November

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2019, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 628 million euros. Turnover increased by 4% at constant prices compared to November 2018.

The census project will be run by Svetlana Raudonen

On 6 January, Svetlana Raudonen, a top-level expert with international experience, will start working as the project manager for the Population and Housing Census at Statistics Estonia.

In the 3rd quarter, the Dwelling Price Index continued to rise

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2019, the Dwelling Price Index changed by 8.1% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2018 and by 2.4% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2019.
