GDP flash estimate: the economy grew by 1.3% in Q1

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2026, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 1.3% compared with the same period of 2025.

HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.9% in April

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, increased by 0.9% compared with March. Compared with April last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on April prices are received.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2018, domestic and foreign tourists who stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments numbered 210,000, which is 3,000 tourists more than in February 2017.

In March, the consumer price index was affected the most by food and housing

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in March 2018 was 0.0% compared to February 2018 and 2.8% compared to March of the previous year.

In February, the volume of industrial production was greater than a year ago

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2018, the production of industrial enterprises increased 2% compared to February 2017. Production increased in mining and in energy. Production in manufacturing stayed at previous year’s level.

In February, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2018, compared to February of the previous year, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 3% at constant prices.

Statistics Estonia transforming into a national data agency in the coming years

The government approved the development plan of Statistics Estonia for 2018–2022 at its cabinet meeting today. The greatest change in the new strategy period is transforming Statistics Estonia into a national data agency – an office that offers data from different sources, support when using data as well as classic official statistics.

General government continued in small deficit

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2017, the Estonian general government deficit was 0.3% and the gross debt level was 9% of the gross domestic product.

The annual growth of the Dwelling Price Index accelerated

According to Statistics Estonia, the Dwelling Price Index increased by 5.5% in 2017 compared to the average of 2016. In the annual comparison, the prices of apartments increased by 5.4% and the prices of houses by 5.8%.

Passenger traffic and shipment of goods through ports increased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2017, compared to 2016, the number of international traffic passengers served by Estonian ports increased by 3%, the number of national traffic passengers increased by 7% and the freight volume of ports in tonnes increased by 3%.

The industrial producer price index decreased in February

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2018, the producer price index of industrial output changed by -0.8% compared to January and by 2.7% compared to February 2017.

The year began with growth in exports

According to Statistics Estonia, in January, compared to January 2017, the exports of goods increased by 9% and imports decreased by 8%. The growth in exports was broad‑based, increase occurred in most commodity sections.
