How healthy are the people of Estonia?

Starting on 1 May, residents of Estonia will receive invitations to participate in the Estonian Health Interview Survey, which aims to assess the health status of the population, factors influencing it, and the use of health services. The survey covers the entire population of Estonia aged 15 and older.

In the 4th quarter, the number of job vacancies decreased

According to Statistics Estonia, there were almost 6,600 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 4th quarter of 2015. The number of job vacancies decreased by 25.5% compared to the previous quarter and by 8.4% compared to the 4th quarter of 2014. In 2015, the number of job vacancies was the largest in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

In 2015 the total profit of the business sector decreased

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2015 the total profit of the business sector was 3.0 billion euros, which was 8% less than the year before. The increase in the business sector’s total profit turned to decline after five years of growth.

Last year, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,065 euros

According to Statistics Estonia, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,065 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 6.51 euros. Compared to 2014, the average monthly and hourly gross wages and salaries increased by 6.0%. The monthly gross wages and salaries were highest in the 4th quarter.

Construction volumes decreased in 2015

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2015 the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to 2.0 billion euros, which is 5% less than in 2014. The construction volumes have decreased for two years in a row.

Every fifth person in Estonia lived in relative poverty in 2014

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2014, 21.6% of the Estonian population lived in relative poverty and 6.3% in absolute poverty. The overall percentage of people living in relative poverty decreased 0.5 percentage points compared to the previous year, the percentage of people living in absolute poverty decreased 1.7 percentage points.

The year end saw a change in the labour market

According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate was 6.2%, the employment rate was 65.2% and the labour force participation rate was 69.4% in 2015. The unemployment level was significantly lower and the employment rate and labour force participation rate higher than in 2014. Compared to 2014, labour market indicators improved thanks to the results of the first three quarters, whereas in the 4th quarter the situation changed.
