Industrial enterprises are recovering from the crisis

​Industry is the largest sector of the economy and an important driver of economic growth. The index of industrial production covers the economic indicators of three industrial activities: mining, energy production and manufacturing.

Helle Bunder, analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that May was the month last year when manufacturing volumes decreased the most due to the coronavirus pandemic. “In connection with the low reference base, manufacturing production has increased by 18.5% year on year,” said Bunder.

The share of men receiving parental benefit increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, men accounted for slightly more than a fifth of the 34,570 persons receiving parental benefit. The average monthly parental benefit was 1,170 euros for women and 1,638 euros for men. The parental benefit gap was the lowest ever.

Dwelling Price Index rose by 6.6%

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2021, the Dwelling Price Index increased by 6.6% compared both to the fourth and the first quarter of 2020.

Sales of herbicides were again the highest last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, 784 tonnes of pesticides by active substance were placed on the market in Estonia. The majority of these pesticides were herbicides, while the sales of fungicides and growth regulators were the highest of the last decade.

Exports and imports of services were at the same level in the first quarter

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2021, the exports of services grew by 2% and imports of services by 51% year on year. Estonian economic entities exported and imported services for 1.6 billion euros. The imports of services increased mainly on account of growth in telecommunications, computer and information services.

In April, trade grew by a half

According to Statistics Estonia, in April, exports of goods increased by 54% and imports by 51% year on year. The trade growth was influenced by last year’s low reference base as well as by the increase in exports and imports of mineral products, electrical equipment and transport equipment.
