Coronavirus and the ensuing economic crisis have affected the labour market also in Estonia. Since April, Statistics Estonia is publishing short-term statistics on changes in the labour market. Interactive charts give an overview of the current labour market situation on the basis of weekly data from the employment register. Census data show that 58% of the population was employed at the end of 2021, which is 6 percentage points more than 10 years ago. The increase is mainly due to persons of retirement age, but also slightly to the unemployed and students.

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2020, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 680 million euros. Compared to July 2019, turnover increased by 4% at constant prices.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2020, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,433 euros, which is 1% higher than last year. While in county comparison, both increase and decrease in wages could be observed, the year-on-year growth has not been as modest in ten years.

According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2020, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 667 million euros. Compared to August 2019, turnover increased by 4% at constant prices.

Import of services takes place when a resident of Estonia purchases services from a non-resident, incl. from an economic unit that belongs to the same enterprise group but is located abroad. For providing services, it is not necessary to cross country borders, i.e. services can be provided in Estonia or abroad.

According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2020, the production of industrial enterprises decreased by 18% compared to May 2019. Production decreased in all three industrial activities: manufacturing, energy production and mining.
