Piret Pukk, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that Estonian residents have been travelling more in recent years but are still not making as many trips as before the pandemic, especially as concerns outbound trips. “Last year, the number of domestic trips was again over two times bigger than the number of outbound trips. According to Statistics Estonia, in the fourth quarter of 2023, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 2.7% compared with the same period of 2022. The GDP at current prices was 9.9 billion euros in the fourth quarter. In 2023 as a whole, Estonia’s GDP decreased by 3% and amounted to 37.7 billion euros at current prices.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the third quarter of 2023, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 1% and imports by 3% at current prices compared with the same quarter of 2022. Sales of services to non-residents totalled 2.8 billion euros and purchases of services from non-residents amounted to 2.2 billion euros. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by 557 million euros.

Data from Statistics Estonia show that the most popular online services used by the population in Estonia are banking and email. Compared with 2023, the number of social media users has increased – up by 5.7% in 2024.

The share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports was also up from October last year, accounting for 66% in October 2024.
