Exports of goods of Estonian origin grew by 10% in July

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade statistics analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that goods of Estonian origin accounted for 63% of Estonia’s total exports in July, and this share rose by four percentage points year on year. “Exports of goods of Estonian origin increased by 10% compared with July last year. This increase was supported by the greater exports of mineral products of Estonian origin, including shale oil,” explained Leppmets.

“Re-exports, i.e. the exports of previously imported goods, declined by 7% in July year on year, mainly due to the decreased re-exports of mineral fuels,” she added.

Electrical equipment was the most exported commodity in July

The main commodities exported in July were electrical equipment (15% of Estonia’s total exports), agricultural products and food preparations (12%), mechanical appliances (10%) and transport equipment (10%). Compared with July 2025, the greatest increase was recorded in the exports of machinery and mechanical appliances, including computers – up by 16 million euros (13%). Exports of base metals and articles of base metal, including metal waste, decreased the most, falling by 7 million euros (6%).

Estonia’s top export partner in July was Finland (14% of total exports), followed by Latvia (12%) and Lithuania (10%). The main commodities exported were electrical equipment to Finland, agricultural products and food preparations to Latvia, and transport equipment to Lithuania.

“Intra-EU exports remained at last year’s level, meaning that total exports were boosted by extra-EU exports which were up by 13%,” explained Leppmets.

The greatest increase occurred in exports of goods to Singapore (up by 52 million euros) where Estonia exported more mineral products, including shale oil. The biggest fall was recorded in exports to Latvia (down by 39 million euros), due to decreased exports of mineral products, including natural gas.

Imports from the Netherlands grew the most, while imports from Finland showed the greatest decline

The main commodities imported in July were electrical equipment (14% of Estonia’s total imports), agricultural products and food preparations (13%) and transport equipment (12%). Year on year, the biggest increase was recorded in the imports of base metals and articles of base metal, including hollow profiles (up by 18 million euros, or 12%) and in the imports of raw materials and products of chemical industry, including fertilisers (up by 16 million euros, or 10%). Compared with July 2025, there were decreased imports of mineral products, including natural gas (down by 35 million euros, or 18%).

Estonia’s top import partners in July were Germany (11% of total imports), Lithuania (11%), Finland (10%) and Latvia (10%). The main commodities imported were transport equipment from Germany, mineral products from Lithuania and Finland, and agricultural products and food preparations from Latvia. Compared with July last year, the greatest increase was recorded in imports of goods from the Netherlands (up by 31 million euros, or 31%), as there were more arrivals of machinery and mechanical appliances, including parts thereof. The biggest fall occurred in imports of goods from Finland (down by 50 million euros, or 20%), due to fewer arrivals of mineral products, including natural gas.
