  3. Estonian residents made 8% more domestic trips last year
Piret Pukk, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that Estonian residents have been travelling more in recent years but are still not making as many trips as before the pandemic, especially as concerns outbound trips. “Last year, the number of domestic trips was again over two times bigger than the number of outbound trips. In 2019, Estonian residents made 1.7 million overnight outbound trips and 3.5 million overnight domestic trips. In 2024, the number of trips abroad was 9% smaller than in 2019, while the number of domestic trips was almost back at the pre-pandemic level,” said Pukk

  3. HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.4% in June
The consumer price index uses weights reflecting the average expenditure structure of Estonian residents, while the harmonised index of consumer prices also takes into account the expenditures of tourists and is comparable to the international HICP. “According to the initial estimate, the index was mainly influenced by the decrease in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as clothing and footwear – both month on month and year on year,” said Lauri Veski, the Consumer Price Statistics Service Manager at Statistics Estonia. The consumer price index data for June will be

The consumer price index uses weights reflecting the average expenditure structure of Estonian residents, while the harmonised index of consumer prices also takes into account the expenditures of tourists and is comparable to the international HICP. “We have not yet received all the data, but we can say that the index for March was influenced the most by the decreased prices of electricity and food products and by the increase in fuel prices,” said Lauri Veski, the Consumer Price Statistics Service Manager at Statistics Estonia. The consumer price index data for March will be published by

  3. Average wages and salaries were €2,075 in the third quarter
“In the third quarter of this year, the percentage change in wages and salaries remained at the same level as in the previous quarter. However, in the third quarter of 2024, wage growth was 8.1%, which means that the year-on-year growth in wages and salaries slowed down,” said Sigrid Saagpakk, analyst at Statistics Estonia. She added that, in the second quarter, employees usually receive more bonuses (such as holiday pay), which is why the average wages and salaries in the third quarter are typically lower than in the second quarter. In the third quarter, the average monthly gross wages and

  3. According to revised data, economic growth is yet to be seen
Robert Müürsepp, the national accounts team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that the GDP, which had shown growth in the fourth quarter last year, was again down a little in the first quarter this year. “A month ago, we published a model-based flash estimate which suggested that the economy might be slightly improving. However, the flash estimate underestimated some irregular factors in the fourth quarter. Vehicle sales were exceptionally high in the fourth quarter in anticipation of the introduction of the motor vehicle tax from 2025. But the model could not fully foresee the significant

In the second quarter, the prices of apartments rose by 4.5% and the prices of houses by 7.8% compared with the second quarter last year. Märt Umbleja, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with the previous quarter, apartment prices went up by 4.8% and the prices of houses by 1.4% in the second quarter. “Apartment prices across Estonia have risen for two consecutive quarters following a period of decline in 2024. As an exception, apartment prices per square metre remained unchanged in Tallinn in the first quarter, with prices rising only now, in the second quarter, by 3.9

The consumer price index uses weights reflecting the average expenditure structure of Estonian residents, while the harmonised index of consumer prices also takes into account the expenditures of tourists and is comparable to the international HICP. “According to the initial estimate, the increase in the index in April was mainly due to the high prices of diesel fuel and petrol, which have risen due to the armed conflicts in the Middle East,” said Lauri Veski, the Consumer Price Statistics Service Manager at Statistics Estonia. The consumer price index data for April will be published by

  3. Retail trade volume up by 7% in March
Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the turnover volume of enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel grew by 15% year on year, despite the sharp increase in fuel prices. “One of the reasons was the uncertainty felt by consumers – fearing future price hikes, people started to stock up on fuel,” noted Pihlak. Compared with March 2025, the turnover volume of stores selling manufactured goods increased by 10%. At the same time, the turnover volume of grocery stores continued to decline in March and was down by 2% year on year. “The turnover volume of

  3. Statistics Estonia will start conducting business and consumer surveys
Kaire Raasik, Head of the Economic and Environmental Statistics Department at Statistics Estonia, said that these monthly surveys provide fast and regular assessments of the economic situation and expected developments and also collect information about economic and consumer confidence. “These surveys give an overview of current economic tendencies – often before other official statistics indicators are published. The surveys also allow easy comparisons of the economic situation across European Union countries,” explained Raasik. The business and consumer surveys used to be carried out by the
