HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.9% in April
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, increased by 0.9% compared with March. Compared with April last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on April prices are received.
The consumer price index uses weights reflecting the average expenditure structure of Estonian residents, while the harmonised index of consumer prices also takes into account the expenditures of tourists and is comparable to the international HICP.
“According to the initial estimate, the increase in the index in April was mainly due to the high prices of diesel fuel and petrol, which have risen due to the armed conflicts in the Middle East,” said Lauri Veski, the Consumer Price Statistics Service Manager at Statistics Estonia.
The consumer price index data for April will be published by Statistics Estonia on Friday, 8 May. April data on the harmonised index of consumer prices will be published on 19 May.
