Statistics Estonia prepared an analysis for Archimedes Foundation on the participation of international students in the Estonian labour market and its impact on the economy. It appeared that in the previous academic year, foreign students paid eight million euros in income and social tax in Estonia. International students who graduated the year prior contributed additionally over two million euros. The share of international students who work besides studying has increased significantly in the last three years. A half of them continue working in Estonia even after receiving a diploma.

According to Statistics Estonia, the average gross monthly wages and salaries in the first quarter of 2023 were 1,741 euros, which is 13.3% higher than at the same time last year. The median wages, however, were 1,424 euros. The average real wages in the first quarter of 2023 were 1,443 euros, 3.2% lower than last year.

Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with September 2023, the consumer price index was affected the most by price changes related to food and non-alcoholic beverages, motor fuel and oils, and miscellaneous goods and services. “Among food products, the biggest increases compared with September last year occurred in the prices of juices and syrups, which rose by 57.1%, and the prices of olive oil, which increased by 56.3%. According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in June 2020 was 0.9% compared to May 2020 and –1% compared to June of the previous year. Compared to June 2019, goods were 0.8% and services 1.2% cheaper.
