GDP flash estimate: economy grew by 0.5% in Q2
According to Statistics Estonia's preliminary estimate, Estonia's economy showed modest improvement in the second quarter of 2025. Compared with the second quarter of 2024, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.5%.
HICP flash estimate: prices up by 1.1% in June
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in June 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists in Estonia, increased by 1.1% compared with May. Compared with June last year, the HICP rose by 5.2%.
In the first quarter, the number of bus passengers grew the most on urban lines
According to Statistics Estonia, 49.9 million passengers used transport services provided by Estonian enterprises in the first quarter of 2025, which is 2% less than in the same period last year. Buses carried 41.6 million and trains 1.9 million passengers. Compared with the first quarter of 2024, bus use increased by 4%, while passenger train use remained unchanged. In the first quarter, the number of bus passengers on urban lines rose by 6% compared with the same quarter last year.
eSTAT is replaced by a new self-service environment
Starting from 12 June, data can be submitted to Statistics Estonia in the new self-service environment at uuringud.stat.ee. To make data submission as easy and convenient as possible, all questionnaires will be updated in the new environment. Currently, only some of the questionnaires have been updated, however, the goal is to update all enterprise questionnaires by the end of 2026.
Average wages and salaries rose by 8.1% last year
According to Statistics Estonia, the average monthly gross wages and salaries in 2024 stood at €1,981, which is 8.1% higher than in 2023. In the fourth quarter of 2024, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were €2,062, which is 8.3% higher than in the same quarter of 2023.
The increase in manufacturing output in January was mainly driven by the wood industry
According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2025, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 2.5% at constant prices compared with January 2024. Among the three industrial sectors, output increased by 2% in manufacturing but decreased by 7.4% in mining and by 21.8% in electricity production.
Exports of services up by 7% and imports by 5% in 2024
According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in 2024, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 7% and imports by 5%. Exports of services totalled €12.5 billion and imports €9.5 billion at current prices. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by €2.9 billion, which is €333 million more than in 2023.
HICP flash estimate: prices up by 1.3% in February
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in February 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) increased by 1.3% compared with January and by 5% compared with February last year.
Economy grew by 1.2% in Q4 of 2024
According to Statistics Estonia, in the fourth quarter of 2024, the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.2% compared with the same period of 2023. Estonia's GDP contracted by 0.3% in 2024. The GDP at current prices amounted to €10.6 billion in the final quarter of last year and to €39.5 billion in 2024 as a whole.
Retail trade volume up by 3% in January
According to Statistics Estonia, in January, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 804 million euros. Compared with January 2024, the volume of retail trade turnover increased by 3%.
In January, the producer price index remained at the same level year on year
The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, rose by 0.9% in January 2025 compared with December 2024. The index remained at the same level as in January last year.
Construction volume down by 6% last year
According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2024, the total production value of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad decreased by 6% compared with 2023. Considering only the domestic market, the fall in construction volume last year was 7%.
The numbers of unemployed and employed persons both increased last year
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2024, the unemployment rate was 7.6%, the employment rate was 68.9%, and the labour force participation rate was 74.6%.
3.6 million tourists: number of accommodated tourists was up by 5% in 2024
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2024, Estonian accommodation establishments served 3.6 million tourists, which is 5% more than in 2023 but 5% less than in 2019.
Foreign trade in goods was up in December but down in 2024 as a whole
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2024, exports of goods decreased by 4% and imports by 2% compared with 2023. Exports of goods amounted to 17.4 billion and imports to 20.7 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 3.3 billion euros, which is 275 million euros higher than in 2023. In December 2024, exports of goods increased by 2% and imports by 9% compared with December 2023.
Food prices increased in January, clothing prices decreased (corrected on 5.03.2025)
According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2025, the consumer price index increased by 1.4% compared with December 2024 and by 3.9% compared with January 2024. Goods were 2.4% and services 6.3% more expensive than in January last year.
