HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.9% in April

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, increased by 0.9% compared with March. Compared with April last year, the HICP rose by 3.3%. This is a flash estimate which will be refined once more detailed data on April prices are received.

1,360,745 people: Estonia’s population declined for the second year in a row

According to Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2026, the population of Estonia stood at 1,360,745. This is 9,250 persons fewer than at the same time the year before. Estonia’s population decreased for the second year in a row. There were 9,240 births and 15,688 deaths last year. 15,212 persons immigrated to Estonia and 18,014 persons emigrated.

Construction volumes increased in the 3rd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2013 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries grew 4%.

There is an almost sevenfold difference between the at-risk-of-poverty rates of local governments in Estonia

According to Statistics Estonia, in Viimsi rural municipality and Saue city, only 6% of residents lived in relative poverty in 2011, while the share of the relatively poor was over 40% in Kallaste city and in Alatskivi and Peipsiääre rural municipalities. Among local governments, at-risk-of-poverty rate was the highest in remote areas near the border and the lowest in the local governments of Harju county.

In September the decline in trade compared to the previous year continued

According to Statistics Estonia, in September 2013, exports of goods decreased by 8% and imports by 2% at current prices compared to September of the previous year. Exports and imports have declined for four successive months, compared to the same month of the previous year. During the nine months of 2013, exports declined by 1% compared to the same period of 2012.
