  3. Statistics Estonia starts monitoring consumers’ and enterprises’ economic confidence: each response matters
The monthly surveys allow the regular assessment of current economic tendencies and are also used for forecasting. “Among other things, the economic sentiment surveys reveal whether Estonian households are able to save money or whether they can afford to make major purchases. The business surveys show how enterprises in the construction, industry, trade and services sectors are doing, and which factors influence their performance,” explained Kaire Raasik, Head of the Economic and Environmental Statistics Department at Statistics Estonia. The data collected with the business and consumer

The business and consumer surveys reflect economic confidence in four business sectors and among consumers. A confidence indicator* is calculated for each sector based on the survey responses. These indicators are used for economic forecasting and international comparisons, among other things. The results of the May survey show that the confidence indicator was the highest in the trade sector (+14). The confidence indicator was -0.1 for the services sector and -0.9 for the industry sector. The construction sector had the lowest confidence indicator (-17.1), with insufficient demand cited as

  3. Statistics Estonia will start conducting business and consumer surveys
Kaire Raasik, Head of the Economic and Environmental Statistics Department at Statistics Estonia, said that these monthly surveys provide fast and regular assessments of the economic situation and expected developments and also collect information about economic and consumer confidence. “These surveys give an overview of current economic tendencies – often before other official statistics indicators are published. The surveys also allow easy comparisons of the economic situation across European Union countries,” explained Raasik. The business and consumer surveys used to be carried out by the

In June, the enterprises’ confidence indicator was the highest in trade (+20.5); it was +3.1 in the services sector and -3.8 in the industry sector. The confidence indicator was the lowest in the construction sector (-12), where insufficient demand was considered the main factor limiting construction activity. The consumer confidence indicator was -29 in June. Month on month, confidence improved among consumers as well as among enterprises in the trade, construction and services sectors. Assessments by industry sector enterprises were somewhat more pessimistic. A more detailed look at the

  3. 65% of people and 34% of enterprises use AI
Luisa Nuka, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, year on year, the use of artificial intelligence grew 1.4 times among households and 1.5 times among enterprises. “This is probably related to the wider availability of AI-based tools and services and their integration into our daily lives. The use of AI increased the most in age group 65–74, where the share of users grew more than twice,” noted Nuka. There was also a notable rise in AI use among 35–44-year-olds. “The use of AI did not show such growth among young people, because the share of AI users was already high. Of all age groups

Krista Vaikmets, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that there was a year-on-year increase in average monthly gross wages in all counties, but the extent of the wage growth varied regionally. “The increase in average gross wages was the biggest in Ida-Viru county (8%) and Hiiu county (7%) and somewhat more modest in Põlva, Jõgeva and Valga counties, where the rise in wages was around 4%,” said Vaikmets. At the county level, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were still the highest in Harju county (2,488 euros), followed by Tartu county (2,285 euros). In both of these

  3. Average wages and salaries were €2,075 in the third quarter
“In the third quarter of this year, the percentage change in wages and salaries remained at the same level as in the previous quarter. However, in the third quarter of 2024, wage growth was 8.1%, which means that the year-on-year growth in wages and salaries slowed down,” said Sigrid Saagpakk, analyst at Statistics Estonia. She added that, in the second quarter, employees usually receive more bonuses (such as holiday pay), which is why the average wages and salaries in the third quarter are typically lower than in the second quarter. In the third quarter, the average monthly gross wages and
