In October, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for exports, was at the same level as in September. Compared to October 2019, the producer price index decreased by 1.9%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the biggest increase compared to the previous year occurred in people’s use of the internet for participating in online courses. The popularity of e-commerce also grew, with 62% of the population aged 16–74 having made online purchases. Eveli Šokman, team lead of producer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with September 2023, the producer price index was most affected by price decreases in electricity and heat energy production and in the manufacture of fuel oils. “Rising prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products, repair of machinery and equipment, and manufacture of electronic equipment had the opposite effect on the index. According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises fell by 3% compared with June last year. Among the three industrial sectors, output increased by 4% in electricity production but decreased by 19.7% in mining and by 2.3% in manufacturing.

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia and the Agricultural Registers and Information Board (ARIB), the utilised agricultural area this year is 983,400 hectares, which is 4,400 hectares less than in 2023. There has been a slight decrease in arable land, as well as in the area of fruit and berry plantations. The sown area of potatoes, which has been in decline for a long time, continues the trend and is 8% smaller in 2024 than the year before.
