Statistics Estonia’s survey on information technology in households shows that inhabitants of Estonia are active users of the internet, but businesses need to protect themselves from security threats.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2024, the dwelling price index increased by 6.7% compared with the same period in 2023 and by 2.8% compared with the first quarter of 2024.

Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the number of accommodated tourists was still 5% lower than in October of 2019, the pre-pandemic record year. According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2024, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 2.4% compared with the same period of 2023. The GDP at current prices amounted to 8.9 billion euros.

According to Statistics Estonia, in August, the consumer price index increased by 0.4% compared with July and by 3.2% compared with August 2023. Goods were 1.4% and services 6.3% more expensive than in August last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, the average monthly gross wages and salaries in the second quarter of 2024 were €2,007, which is 7.2% higher than in the same quarter the year before. The median wages were €1,641 in the second quarter of this year and €1,524 in the same quarter of 2023.

Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with October 2023, the consumer price index was affected the most by price changes related to food and non-alcoholic beverages, recreation, and phone services. “Among food products, the higher prices of non-alcoholic beverages (+20.4%), fruits (+12.4%) and vegetables (+5.5%) drove up the index the most compared with October last year.
