In June, exports and imports of goods grew by 15%

Evelin Puura, the Foreign Trade Statistics Service Manager at Statistics Estonia, said that exports and imports of goods grew by 4% in the first quarter and that the growth accelerated in the second quarter, when exports were up by 13% and imports by 11% compared with a year earlier. In the first six months of 2026, exports of goods amounted to nearly 10.1 billion euros and imports to nearly 12 billion euros at current prices. “In the first half of the year, the main commodities exported were electrical equipment as well as agricultural products and food preparations, while the main commodities imported were electrical equipment and transport equipment. The main export partners were Finland, Latvia, Lithuania and Sweden, and the main import partners were Finland, Germany and Latvia,” added Puura.

In June, exports of goods grew the most to Finland

The main commodities exported in June were electrical equipment (14% of total exports), agricultural products and food preparations (12%) and transport equipment (11%). The biggest increase was recorded in the dispatches from Estonia of mineral products (up by 62 million euros, or 62%), base metals and articles of base metal (up by 28 million euros, or 25%), and agricultural products and food preparations (up by 27 million euros, or 15%), incl. wheat, rapeseed oil, cocoa paste and peas.

Goods of Estonian origin accounted for 64% of total exports in June, and their dispatches grew by 15% year on year. The biggest increase occurred in the dispatches of electrical equipment of Estonian origin (incl. parts of equipment), base metals and articles of base metal (incl. metal structures), and mineral products (incl. shale fuel oil). Re-exports, i.e. the exports of previously imported goods, increased by 15%. Re-exports of mineral products grew the most.

The top destinations for exports of goods were Finland (16% of total exports), Latvia (11%) and Lithuania (9%). The main commodities exported were electrical equipment to Finland, and transport equipment to Latvia and Lithuania. Exports of goods grew the most to Finland (up by 54 million euros, or 26%) and the Netherlands (up by 43 million euros, or 94%), with more dispatches of mineral products than before. There were greater dispatches of natural gas to Finland and of shale fuel oil to the Netherlands.

The main import partners were Finland, Germany and Latvia

The main commodities imported in June were electrical equipment (15% of total imports), transport equipment (14%), and agricultural products and food preparations (12%). Compared with June last year, the biggest increase, i.e. 90 million euros, was recorded in the imports of mineral products into Estonia (86%), incl. natural gas and electricity. There were also greater imports of electrical equipment than a year earlier (up by 70 million euros, or 29%).

The main import partners were Finland, Germany and Latvia (each accounting for 11% of total imports). Mineral products were mostly brought in from Finland, agricultural products and food preparations from Latvia, and transport equipment from Germany. The greatest increase was recorded in the arrivals of goods from the Netherlands (up by 48 million euros, or 47%), Finland (up by 44 million euros, or 24%) and Latvia (up by 43 million euros, or 24%), with more mineral products brought in than a year earlier.
