According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2017, the unemployment rate was 5.6%, the employment rate 66.3% and the labour force participation rate 70.2%. The labour force participation rate reached a record level in comparison with the 1st quarters of previous years.

Museums continue to be popular in Estonia. According to Statistics Estonia, there were 3.5 million museum visits in 2016, which is 6% more than the year before.

According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2017, the exports of goods increased by 15% and imports by 12% compared to March 2016. In the first quarter of this year, exports increased by 12% and imports 17%, compared the same period of 2016.

The number of passengers increased in sea and rail transport, but decreased in road and air transport. Carriage of goods increased in road transport, but decreased in rail transport.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2017, domestic and foreign tourists who stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments numbered 627,000, which was 9% more than in the same period of the previous year.

According to the revised data of Statistics Estonia, 1,315,635 persons lived in Estonia on 1 January 2017, which is 309 persons less than at the same time a year earlier. The population figure decreased by 1,339 persons due to negative natural increase, but increased by 1,030 persons as a result of positive net migration.

According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2017, compared to March 2016, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 6% at constant prices. While in February the turnover increased 1% compared to the same month of the previous year, in March the growth accelerated.

According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2017, the production of industrial enterprises increased 15% compared to March of the previous year. Production increased in the energy sector, mining and quarrying as well as manufacturing.

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2016, the average gross hourly earnings of female employees were 20.9% lower than the average gross hourly earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap decreased by 1.3 percentage points compared to the previous year. The gender pay gap decreased by 1.3 percentage points for the third year in a row.

According to Statistics Estonia, the number of data providers will decrease in 2017 compared to previous years due to the introduction of database data and use of sample surveys.
