In 2025, exports of goods increased by 7% and imports by 8%
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2025, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 7% and imports by 8% compared with 2024. Exports of goods amounted to over 18.6 billion euros and imports to more than 22.4 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 3.8 billion euros, which is 443 million euros more than in 2024. In December 2025, exports of goods increased by 16% and imports by 4% year on year.
Jane Leppmets, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that foreign trade in goods grew in each quarter of 2025. “Exports and imports showed the biggest growth in the first quarter, when they were up by 14% and 15%, respectively. The rate of growth was more moderate in the following quarters but still remained at 3% to 8% for exports and at 6% for imports,” she added.
Exports of goods of Estonian origin grew by 4% last year
The main commodities exported in 2025 were electrical equipment (15% of Estonia’s total exports), agricultural products and food preparations (13%) and wood and articles of wood (11%). Year on year, the biggest increase was seen in the exports of mineral products (up by 204 million euros, or 15%) and transport equipment (up by 201 million euros, or 12%). The biggest decrease occurred in the exports of paper and paper products – down by 39 million euros (11%).
In 2025, Estonia’s top export partners were Finland (15% of total exports), Latvia (11%), Sweden (9%) and Lithuania (9%). The main commodities exported were electrical equipment to Finland and Sweden and transport equipment to Latvia and Lithuania. In comparison with 2024, the biggest rise occurred in exports of goods to Lithuania (up by 204 million euros) and the largest fall was registered in exports to Russia (down by 165 million euros).
Re-exports of goods, i.e. the exports of previously imported goods, increased by 14% in 2025 year on year. Exports of goods of Estonian origin were up by 4% from 2024. The share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports fell by two percentage points and was 63% last year. “Although exports of goods of Estonian origin grew by 4%, their share in total exports declined, which can be explained by the fact that the growth in re-exports was even bigger,” noted Leppmets.
The goods of Estonian origin that were exported the most were wood and articles of wood (17% of exports of goods of Estonian origin), electrical equipment (15%) and agricultural products and food preparations (15%). Exports of the latter increased the most – by 115 million euros.
Estonia’s top import partner was Finland
The main commodities imported last year were electrical equipment, transport equipment, and agricultural products and food preparations, with each accounting for 13% of Estonia’s total imports. Compared with 2024, imports were up in all commodity sections last year. The greatest increase was registered in the imports of mechanical appliances (up by 230 million euros, or 13%) and electrical equipment (up by 227 million euros, or 8%).
Estonia’s main import partners in 2025 were Finland (12% of Estonia’s total imports), Latvia (11%) and Germany (11%). The main commodities imported were mineral products from Finland and Latvia, and transport equipment from Germany. Compared with 2024, imports of goods from Latvia increased the most (up by 235 million euros) last year, and the largest decrease occurred in imports from Finland (down by 79 million euros). There were more arrivals of mineral products from Latvia, while imports of mineral products declined the most in trade with Finland.

The main commodities imported were electrical equipment, agricultural products and food preparations, and transport equipment. Compared with December 2024, there were more imports of mineral products (up by 36 million euros) and electrical equipment (up by 34 million euros) last year. Starting from 2025, Statistics Estonia prepares EU imports statistics using detailed data and estimates from other Member States concerning their exports to Estonia. The data are validated by Statistics Estonia and combined with administrative data. Read more about the changes here (in Estonian).
Statistics Estonia performs the statistical activity “Foreign trade” for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications with the aim to determine how exporting and importing enterprises are performing in Estonia.
Data as at 9 February 2026 are published. The indicator values may change if there are any revisions made in the data sources after this date.
See also the foreign trade section on our website. Statistics Estonia’s foreign trade application provides visualised foreign trade data for Estonia.
More detailed data have been published in the statistical database. Due to rounding, the sum of rows in some tables may differ from the sum total of the column.
