According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2020, the Estonian general government deficit was 4.8% and the gross debt level was 18% of the gross domestic product. At the end of 2020, the general government consolidated expenditures exceeded the revenues by 1.3 billion euros.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.1%, the employment rate 68.2% and the labour force participation rate 71.9%. The unemployment rate was the lowest in a decade.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2016, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,163 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 6.91 euros. Compared to the 2nd quarter of 2015, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased by 7.6% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries by 4.5%. In the 2nd quarter, the annual growth of average monthly gross wages and salaries was slightly slower than in the 1st quarter of 2016.

Due to the requirements of the Integrated European Social Statistics (IESS) regulation, as of 2021, the Estonian Labour Force Survey is based on a new methodology. The main goal of the changes is to improve data quality. Statistics Estonia will publish the data of the 1st quarter of 2021, calculated according to the new methodology, in its database on 17 May.
