According to Statistics Estonia, unemployed persons numbered 59,000 and the unemployment rate was 8.7% in the 4th quarter of 2013. Although the annual average unemployment rate was lower than in 2012, the decline of unemployment has slowed down.

According to Statistics Estonia, one of the most important population development indicators — life expectancy — has shown an increasing trend in Estonia in case of women as well as men during the last decade. Due to a higher life expectancy, women outnumber men at the age of 65+ by two times.

According to the data of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011) of Statistics Estonia, 67% of persons employed in Estonia worked in service sector, 29% in industrial sector and only 4% in primary sector.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 4th quarter of 2014, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,039 euros and increased by 5.3% compared to the 4th quarter of 2013. In 2014, the average monthly gross wages and salaries exceeded the 1,000 euro level in the 2nd and 4th quarter.

According to Statistics Estonia, there are permanent residents of 192 ethnic nationalities in Estonia, based on the preliminary results of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011). The biggest ethnic groups are Estonians, Russians, Ukrainians, Belarusians and Finns.
