According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in the fourth quarter of 2022, the gross domestic product (GDP), which shows how the Estonian economy is doing, declined by 4.1% compared with the same period of 2021. The GDP at current prices was 10 billion euros.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2024, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 1% compared with the same period of 2023. The GDP at current prices amounted to €9.8 billion.

Ülo Paulus, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that in the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period in 2024, the construction price index was primarily influenced by the 2.9% increase in employees’ wages, which accounted for 54% of the index change. “Compared with the fourth quarter of last year, labour force was 0.6% more expensive and the cost of using building machines rose by 0.3%, while the prices of building materials were down by 0.2%,” explained Paulus. In the third quarter of 2023, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 3.9% compared with the same quarter of 2022. The GDP at current prices amounted to 9.4 billion euros.

In 2021, Estonian residents made 575,000 outbound overnight trips, which is 3% more than the year before. The number of overnight domestic trips was nearly 2.3 million – this is 6% more than in 2020. Last year, the expenditures on outbound trips amounted to over 495 million euros and the expenditures on domestic trips to more than 402 million euros.

On Sunday, 9 December, Statistics Estonia launches the Household Budget Survey, to collect data from households on their daily expenditure and consumption. The survey runs until the end of 2019.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2022, the consumer price index changed by -0.1% compared to December 2021 and by 11.3% compared to January 2021. Goods were 9.0% and services 16.0% more expensive than in January last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2020, the average expenditure per household member in a month was 477 euros, which is 12 euros less than in 2019. Compulsory expenditure, i.e. unavoidable food and housing expenses in the household budget, increased by seven euros year on year.
