According to Statistics Estonia, in the 4th quarter of 2010, the number of unemployed persons decreased to 93,000 and the unemployment rate to 13.6%. The annual average number of unemployed persons was the largest during the period after the restoration of independence in Estonia.

During the population and housing census, information on the highest level of education attained by inhabitants of Estonia was also gathered and data were compared with that of other countries. Estonia has seen an increase in the proportion of people with higher education, while the share of persons with basic education has decreased. Estonian women are still among the most highly educated in Europe, and overall Estonia ranks 7th in terms of the share of people with higher education.

According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate rose to 11.4% in the 1st quarter of the current year. The number of employed persons decreased by 44,000 during the year.

During the population and housing census, information on the highest level of education attained by inhabitants of Estonia was also gathered. Collected data revealed that the educational attainment of the population continues to rise. The level of education of foreigners living in here has also increased significantly. The e-census part of the Estonian Population and Housing Census ended on Saturday, January 22. According to the preliminary data, 568,891 persons, i.e. 43% of the Estonian population, were enumerated.

Piret Pukk, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that Estonian residents have been travelling more in recent years but are still not making as many trips as before the pandemic, especially as concerns outbound trips. “Last year, the number of domestic trips was again over two times bigger than the number of outbound trips. In 2019, Estonian residents made 1.7 million overnight outbound trips and 3.5 million overnight domestic trips. In 2024, the number of trips abroad was 9% smaller than in 2019, while the number of domestic trips was almost back at the pre-pandemic level,” said Pukk

The total area of utilised agricultural land did not change considerably in 2017. Production of field crops was higher than in the previous year, but a lot of production was not harvested. The number of pigs increased and the number of cattle also increased slightly. Less meat but more milk and eggs were produced than in the previous year.
