According to Statistics Estonia, population density is the highest in the Lasnamäe district of Tallinn city, specifically in the Linnamäe-Kärberi streets area with 15,800 inhabitants per square kilometre, as shown by the 1 km x 1 km grid map of population density created on the basis of the 2011 Population and Housing Census.

The average working week of men is three hours longer than that of women. A half of males employed and a third of females employed work overtime. This has been proved in Statistics Estonia’s publication “Time Use of the Population of Estonia” published today.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2013, 163,000 tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Estonia, which was 6% more than in January a year earlier. One third more tourists came from Russia than from Finland.

On Wednesday, 5th of August, Walter Radermacher, Director General of Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, will be on a one-day visit to Estonia. He will meet with the Director General of Statistics Estonia, the Estonian Minister of Finance and the Members of the Statistical Council, and will deliver a public lecture.

According to the flash estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased by 3.7% in the 4th quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The annual GDP growth in 2012 was 3.2% compared to the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, there were nearly 9,000 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 4th quarter of 2016. Compared to the 3rd quarter, when the number of job vacancies reached a 7-year high, in the 4th quarter, the number of job vacancies decreased by 18%. Compared to the 4th quarter of 2015, the number of job vacancies increased by 37%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2017, the unemployment rate was 5.8%, the employment rate 67.5% and the labour force participation rate 71.6%. In the 2nd quarter, unemployment increased temporarily, primarily due to an increased number of previously inactive persons entering the labour market. Employment and labour force participation remained high throughout 2017, reaching the highest levels in 20 years. In the 4th quarter, the youth (15–24-year-olds) unemployment rate was very low – 6.2%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in December 2009 compared to December of the previous year the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises decreased 15% at constant prices. The decline in retail sales which had stood within the limits of 17% during the previous months slowed down to some extent in December.
