Unemployment decreased in the 2nd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, unemployed persons numbered 47,000 and the unemployment rate was 6.9% in the 2nd quarter of 2014. Employment increased compared to the 1st quarter, but decreased compared to the same quarter of the previous year. This shows that Estonia is gradually facing the consequences of declining labour force.
Estimated population decreased by 4,400 persons in the previous year

According to Statistics Estonia, by preliminary data, the population number in Estonia was 1,316,500 on 1 January 2012. The decline in the estimated population in 2011 was influenced by the decrease in the number of births as well as by the increase of emigration.
Household Budget Survey starts in December

On Sunday, 9 December, Statistics Estonia launches the Household Budget Survey, to collect data from households on their daily expenditure and consumption. The survey runs until the end of 2019.

According to Statistics Estonia’s population projection, in 2080, there will be approximately 1.2 million people in Estonia. Over the next 60 years, the population of Estonia will decrease by 11%, in the next 25 years, by 35,800 persons, and by 2080, by 145,200 persons.

In August, 488,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments

According to Statistics Estonia, in August, 9% more tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than in August 2018. The number of nights spent by tourists increased by 7%. 286,000 of the visitors of accommodation establishments were foreign tourists and 202,000 were domestic tourists.
PHC 2011: Number of households with children is decreasing

According to the data of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011), there were 599,832 households in Estonia. Compared to the previous, 2000 Population Census, the share of households with children younger than 18 years of age has decreased from 33.6% to 25.2%.
Foreign trade increased slightly in October, exports of goods of Estonian origin decreased

In October, the trade deficit was 323 million euros, which is 8 million euros less than in October last year. Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports fell by five percentage points year on year and was 61% in October this year. “Exports of goods of Estonian origin in October were down by 3% from October last year. Re-exports of goods, i.e. the exports of previously imported goods, grew by 19% year on year. This growth resulted mainly from the increased re-exports of mineral products, including natural gas, and
