For summer 2012 it will be clear how big the real population of Estonia is and the emigration trends from the country during the last decade, spoke Professor Ene-Margit Tiit today, on 4 February in the university of the dignified of the University of Tartu while introducing the 2011 Population and Housing Census.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2009, 5,400 purchase-sale transactions of real estate with the total value of 4.7 billion kroons were carried out. Sigrid Saagpakk, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the average monthly gross wages and salaries in 2024 were the highest in Tallinn (€2,325) and in Harju (€2,218) and Tartu (€1,995) counties. “Compared with 2023, the biggest increase in wages and salaries was seen in Hiiu (9.9%) and Ida-Viru (9.7%) counties. Wages and salaries rose by more than 6.5% in all Estonian counties,” the analyst stated. According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2011, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 809 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 4.82 euros. Compared to the 3rd quarter of the previous year, the average monthly gross wages and salaries grew 6.6% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries by 4.7%.

Robert Müürsepp, the national accounts team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that there was modest economic growth in the second quarter of 2025. The last time that the GDP grew was in the second quarter of last year. “About half of economic activities contributed positively to the GDP, with the biggest contribution coming from the energy sector where value added grew by 43%. In real estate activities, value added increased by 5.4%. The biggest negative contributors were construction, with a 9.3% decline in value added, and transportation and storage, where value added decreased by 11%,” noted

Eveli Šokman, team lead of producer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with December 2023, the producer price index was most affected by price increases in the manufacture of wood and wood products, repair of machinery and equipment, and manufacture of food products. “Falling prices in electricity and heat energy production and in the manufacture of fabricated metal products and electrical equipment had the opposite effect on the index. Producer prices increased by 1.9% in manufacturing as a whole and by 2.6% in the manufacture of food products,” Šokman pointed out

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2024, there were 9,598 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 16.3% less than in the same quarter last year. A little under 6,500 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.

70% of the residents of Estonia are expecting the answer about the real population number of the country from the Population and Housing Census which will begin at the end of the year, appears from the survey conducted by the research agency Factum & Ariko in October. 95% of the persons questioned consider the Census essential for Estonia.
