Statistics Estonia announces the competition for the young statistician’s grant named after Albert Pullerits.

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2019, compared to April 2018, the exports and imports of goods increased by 4%. Since the beginning of the year, exports and imports have been on an upward trend compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, Estonia’s exports of goods in July amounted to 1.3 billion and imports to 1.6 billion euros. Compared with July 2022, exports of goods decreased by 26% and imports by 20% at current prices. The trade deficit in July was 385 million euros, which is 42 million euros more than in the same month last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2019, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased by 7.9% compared to the 1st quarter of 2018. In the 1st quarter of 2019, the average hourly gross wages and salaries were 7.90 euros, which is 7% more than in the 1st quarter of 2018.

Jane Leppmets, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that exports of goods increased in September and in the third quarter overall. “Although re-exports fell by 1% in September, the rise in total exports was driven by the 4% increase in exports of goods of Estonian origin. The share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports grew by one percentage point year on year, reaching 64%” added Leppmets. There was a significant rise in trade with non-EU countries. Evelin Puura, the foreign trade statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia, said that trade in August was affected by the continued decline in exports and imports in trade with European Union (EU) countries. “Compared with August 2023, exports to EU countries decreased by 3% and imports from EU countries by 8%. At the same time, extra-EU exports were up by 6%,” noted Puura. The main commodities exported in August were electrical equipment (16% of Estonia’s total exports), agricultural products and food preparations (11%), and wood and articles of wood (11%). According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the fourth quarter of 2023, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 5% and imports by 7% compared with the same quarter of 2022. Sales of services to non-residents totalled 3.1 billion euros and purchases of services from non-residents amounted to 2.3 billion euros at current prices. Total exports of services increased by 9% and imports by 8% last year.

Statistics Estonia concluded agreements with Telia, Tele2 and Elisa to restart mobility analysis. The goal of the planned mobility analysis is to help the government evaluate the impact of the adopted COVID-19 countermeasures on the movement of people, assess change in the risk of infection and effectively plan communication in Estonian regions. Mobility will be analysed using the same methodology as in last spring.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the labour force participation rate was 71.1%, the employment rate was 66.7%, and the unemployment rate was 6.2%. There were 43,100 unemployed persons, which is 4,800 less than in 2020.
