Statistics Estonia has revised the entire time series of gross domestic product (GDP) starting from 1995. During the revision, updated basic data sources were incorporated and methodological improvements were made.

According to Statistics Estonia, in March, the consumer price index increased by 0.4% compared with February 2024 and by 3.9% compared with March 2023. Goods were 1.9% and services 7.1% more expensive than in March last year.

Tea Vassiljeva, analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that the unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percentage points compared with the second quarter. “The number of the unemployed was 56,300 in the third quarter, and it has been slowly declining since the beginning of the year, but there were still 1,500 more unemployed persons than in the third quarter of 2023,” she said. According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served over 384,000 tourists in June 2024, which is 14% more than in June last year. There were more domestic as well as foreign tourists accommodated.

The total number of vacant and occupied posts in the fourth quarter was a little under 599,000. “The number of vacant posts was the highest in public administration and defence and compulsory social security (1,277). The number of occupied posts was the greatest in manufacturing (98,898),” said Sigrid Saagpakk, analyst at Statistics Estonia. Vacant posts accounted for 1.5% of the total number of posts. According to Statistics Estonia, 88% of Estonian households had internet connection at home in 2017. The share of households using mobile internet connection has reached 82%, increasing by four percentage points in a year.

Statistics Estonia’s call to notify of double data collection elicited 54 proposals. Complete or partial re-requesting for data was identified in the case of four questionnaires.

In the Population and Housing Census, which starts at the end of the year, among else, people will be able to give an assessment of their health. Health questions in the same wording were also included in the census ten years ago, which is why the results will provide an overview of Estonian people’s health and how it has changed in a decade.
