Higher prices of manufacture of wood and wood products had the biggest impact on the producer price index in May

In comparison with May 2024, the producer price index in this year’s May was most affected by price increases in the manufacture of wood and wood products and in the manufacture of food products. Falling prices in the manufacture of fuel oils and in electricity production had the opposite effect on the index. Producer prices increased by 1.1% in manufacturing as a whole and by 4.4% in the manufacture of food products. “Looking at a longer period, i.e. in comparison with May 2023, prices in manufacturing as a whole rose by 0.4%, increasing by 1.5% in the manufacture of food products and by 1.4%

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2021, the population of Estonia was 1,329,460 persons, which is 480 persons more than at the same time a year ago. Population decreased by 2,590 persons due to negative natural increase and increased by 3,070 persons as a result of positive net migration.

The earnings application, first published more than a year ago, was upgraded by Statistics Estonia together with the Commissioner for Equal Opportunities, University of Tartu, Tallinn University of Technology and the Social Insurance Board. More occupational groups, comparison of males’ and females’ monthly earnings, and earnings and pension projections were added to the application.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the average income of population decreased and the unemployment increased due to the economic crisis, but increased pensions and governmental benefits helped people to prevent the fall in poverty.

In the second quarter, the prices of apartments rose by 4.5% and the prices of houses by 7.8% compared with the second quarter last year. Märt Umbleja, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with the previous quarter, apartment prices went up by 4.8% and the prices of houses by 1.4% in the second quarter. “Apartment prices across Estonia have risen for two consecutive quarters following a period of decline in 2024. According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2021, the labour force participation rate was 70.6%, the employment rate was 65.8%, and the unemployment rate was 6.9%.
