During the data literacy week, which begins on 27 March, Statistics Estonia invites all young people or anyone else who is interested to improve their data literacy. The main event of this week is Küsimus24, a 24-hour question marathon organised for the first time, during which anyone can submit a question to Statistics Estonia.
Social protection expenditure on the rise

In 2017, the social protection field was mostly characterised by growth trends: the average old-age pension exceeded 400 euros, labour market measures are being used more and there is a greater variety of them, the expenditure on family allowances increased and new allowances for large families were added. The number of old-age pensioners and subsistence benefit recipients has declined.
Average gross hourly earnings continue to increase

Consumer price index on the rise again

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in June 2020 was 0.9% compared to May 2020 and –1% compared to June of the previous year. Compared to June 2019, goods were 0.8% and services 1.2% cheaper.
Statistics Estonia: people stay in one location 20 hours per day on average

Statistics Estonia’s mobility analysis revealed that since the emergency situation and movement restrictions were implemented, people living in Estonia stay in their main location 20 hours per day on average. The distance covered in one day as well as the number of trips has decreased. The revised analysis shows that the share of people staying in their main location has increased by 16 percentage points, which means that an estimated 200,000 more people have stayed local.

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in May 2018 was 0.3% compared to April 2018 and 3.0% compared to May of the previous year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2020, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 585 million euros. Compared to January 2019, turnover increased by 3% at constant prices.
