Helle Bunder, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the increased output of manufacturing resulted primarily from the higher volume of production in the manufacture of wood. “In January, the output of the wood industry was up by 8.3% year on year. This was the first time since May 2022 that the output of this industry increased,” explained Bunder. According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2024, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 1% compared with the same period of 2023. The GDP at current prices amounted to €9.8 billion.

Eveli Šokman, team lead of producer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with November 2023, the producer price index was most affected by price decreases in electricity and heat energy production and in the manufacture of fuel oils and fabricated metal products. “Increased prices in the manufacture of wood and wood products, in the repair of machinery and equipment, and in the manufacture of food products had the opposite effect on the index, so that prices in manufacturing as a whole rose by 1.1% in November. The highest museum attendance was seen in Saare and Lääne counties, where there were respectively 4.1 and 3.9 museum visits per person. Robert Müürsepp, team lead of national accounts at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with the previous quarter, the economy was stable. “Compared with the second quarter of 2024, the seasonally and working-day adjusted GDP was up by 0.1%,” noted Müürsepp. According to Eurostat , the EU economy showed slightly faster growth in the third quarter, as the increase in GDP was 0.9% year on year.
