According to Statistics Estonia, 265,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in May 2023, which is 7% more than in May last year. The number of foreign tourists increased, but there were fewer domestic tourists.

Today, Statistics Estonia releases the latest population projection for 2024–2085. Various key demographic indicators are published, including the population size of Estonia which is projected to be about 1.2 million in 2085. The population will decrease due to low fertility and population ageing.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2023, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,812 euros, which is 10.4% higher than in the same quarter last year. The median wages were 1,500 euros, which is 11.2% more than in the third quarter last year.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the third quarter of 2022, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 32% and imports by 33% year on year. Estonia’s exports of services totalled 2.8 billion euros and imports of services 2.2 billion euros. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by 568 million euros, which is 129 million euros more than in the same quarter last year.

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the first quarter of 2024, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 2%, while imports were unchanged from the same period last year. Sales of services to non-residents totalled €2.8 billion and purchases of services from non-residents amounted to €2.2 billion at current prices. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by €595 million, which is €45 million more than a year earlier.

In 2023, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to €18.2 billion and imports to €21.2 billion at current prices. Exports decreased by 16% and imports by 17% compared with 2022. According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2024, exports of goods decreased by 16% and imports by 15% compared with March 2023. Exports of goods amounted to about 1.5 billion and imports to 1.7 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 216 million euros, which is 14 million euros less than in March last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the consumer price index increased by 9.2% compared with the average of 2022. Price changes related to food and non-alcoholic beverages had the biggest impact on the consumer price index in 2023.
