According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the total production value of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad decreased by 6% at constant prices compared with 2022. Considering only the domestic market, the fall in construction volume was 7%.

Changes in the methodology of the Estonian Labour Force Survey

Due to the requirements of the Integrated European Social Statistics (IESS) regulation, as of 2021, the Estonian Labour Force Survey is based on a new methodology. The main goal of the changes is to improve data quality. Statistics Estonia will publish the data of the 1st quarter of 2021, calculated according to the new methodology, in its database on 17 May.

International students and graduates continue to contribute more in taxes to the Estonian economy

According to Statistics Estonia, in the academic year 2020/2021, international students and graduates in Estonia paid more than ever before in labour taxes: a total of 16 million euros. At the same time, the number of international students was smaller, while the number of international graduates continued to rise. International students and graduates were most likely to work in information and communication as well as in education. Compared to local students, they worked more often in start-up enterprises.

Tea Vassiljeva, analyst at Statistics Estonia, explained that there were 64,200 unemployed persons in the first quarter of 2025, which is the highest value of this indicator in the last 12 years. “The number of the unemployed increased by 5,300 compared with the same quarter of last year. According to Statistics Estonia, in the fourth quarter of 2021, there were 11,103 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 28% more than in the same quarter of 2020. About 7,500 persons left their jobs on the employer’s initiative.
