The stable growth in retail sales continued in June
Since March this year, retail sales have increased steadily by 6 to 8% compared to the same month of the previous year. In June the stable growth in retail sales continued.
In June 2012, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises were 384.8 million euros. The retail sales in stores selling manufactured goods increased 9% compared to June 2011. The sales increased in all economic activities. The increase in retail sales was the biggest in pharmacies and cosmetics stores, where retail sales grew 17% compared to June of the previous year. The growth in the retail sales of these stores was continually influenced by the lower reference base of the previous year. A higher than average increase also occurred in the sales of non-specialized stores selling predominantly industrial goods (16% growth), in retail sales via mail order or the Internet (15% growth) and in the retail sales of other specialized stores, such as stores selling computers and their accessories, photography supplies, books, sports equipment, games and toys, flowers and plants (9% growth).
The retail sales in grocery stores increased 6% compared to June of the previous year, but compared with the two previous months the growth in retail sales decelerated a little. The growth deceleration of these stores was influenced by the high reference base of June 2011.
Compared to the previous month, in June the retail sales in retail trade enterprises increased 3% at constant prices. According to the seasonally and working-day adjusted data, the increase was 1%. During the six months of 2012 (January to June), the retail sales in retail trade enterprises increased 9% at constant prices compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
In June, the revenues from sales of retail trade enterprises totalled 484.9 million euros, with the retail sales of goods accounting for about 80%. Compared to June 2011, the revenues from sales increased by 14% at current prices. Compared to the previous month, this indicator increased 2%.
