In April exports of goods grew significantly
In April exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 10.5 billion kroons and imports of goods to Estonia totalled 10.8 billion kroons. Exports increased by 2.7 billion kroons and imports by 1.5 billion kroons compared to April of the previous year. The growth in exports was partly caused by the low comparative base of April of the previous year. The trade deficit was 0.3 billion kroons in April which was five times less than in April of the previous year.
In April the value of goods exported to the EU countries (EU 27) amounted to 7.3 billion kroons with the share of 69% of Estonia’s total exports. Compared to April of the previous year, exports to the EU countries increased by 1.7 billion kroons or 30%. Exports to non-EU countries or the so-called third countries amounted to 3.2 billion kroons, which was by a half more than in April 2009.
Imports from the European Union countries totalled 8.7 billion kroons with the share of 80% of the Estonian total imports. Imports from the EU 27 countries increased by 1.4 billion kroons or nearly by a fifth compared to April of the previous year. Imports from other countries than the EU 27 accounted for 2.1 billion kroons, which is slightly more than in the same month of the previous year.
The trade deficit between the EU countries amounted to 1.4 billion kroons. The surplus of 1.1 billion kroons was announced in trade with other countries than the EU.
In April compared to March, exports grew by 8%, but imports decreased by 14%.

Statistics Estonia releases the first estimates about foreign trade on the 40th day after the end of the reference period which are then revised on the 54th day. Statistics Estonia will release a more detailed overview about foreign trade on the 28th of June.
