According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2020, the production of industrial enterprises decreased by 11% compared to January 2019. Production decreased in manufacturing as well as in energy and mining.

After a few years of stagnation, 2016 can be considered rather successful for enterprises – the turnover, investments as well as the number of active enterprises increased by 4%. The improved results were reflected also in profits – the profit for the reporting year increased by 11%. Productivity indicators improved also.

According to Statistics Estonia, in June, exports of goods increased by 26% and imports by 45% year on year. In the second quarter as a whole, exports grew by 41% and imports by 49% year on year.

The highest numbers of job vacancies in education, trade and manufacturing

According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2021, there were 11,518 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This number increased by a third year on year. More than 8,500 persons left their jobs on the employer’s initiative.

Foreign trade in goods was up in December but down in 2024 as a whole

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that there was a marked decline in trade in goods in the first quarter of 2024, as exports were down by 16% and imports by 11%. “In the third quarter, imports were unchanged and there was a slight uptrend in exports. The positive trend was even more noticeable in the fourth quarter, with exports increasing by 6% and imports by 7%,” explained Leppmets. According to Statistics Estonia, in April, exports of goods increased by 54% and imports by 51% year on year. The trade growth was influenced by last year’s low reference base as well as by the increase in exports and imports of mineral products, electrical equipment and transport equipment.
