The Farm Structure Survey (FSS) is conducted in Estonia from the beginning of September until 15 November. The results of the FSS, which is carried out in all European Union countries, serve as input for the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2013 the total profit of the business sector was 647 million euros, which was 3% more than in the same period a year earlier. If the year ago the increase of enterprise sector’s total profit was on average 7% then in the 1st quarter this year the growth slowed down.

In June the trade deficit increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2010 compared to June of the previous year, exports of goods grew by 7% and imports by 23% at current prices. Due to a bigger growth in imports compared to exports, the trade deficit increased.

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in April 2009 exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 7.7 billion kroons at current prices and imports to Estonia 9.5 billion kroons. Compared to April of the previous year, both exports and imports decreased about 40%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in September 2010, exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 13.2 billion kroons (841 million euros) and imports to Estonia totalled 13.5 billion kroons (860 million euros) at current prices. The turnover of exports was on a similar level last in October 2008.

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, in May, the changes in intra-EU trade were marginal – exports were up by 3% and imports down by 1%. “In extra-EU trade, exports of goods decreased by 2% while imports increased by 54% compared with May last year. The latter was influenced by a large-scale transaction in the defence sector,” noted Leppmets. In May, exports to Singapore grew the most and exports to Russia fell the most The main commodities exported in May were electrical equipment (15% of Estonia’s total exports), agricultural products and food preparations

According to Statistics Estonia, the opinions of immigrants with knowledge of the Estonian language differed significantly from the opinions of immigrants without knowledge of the Estonian language with respect to belonging to the Estonian society and considering Estonia as their home country.

30% of the enterprises whose submission deadline for the comprehensive annual questionnaire for enterprises (EKOMAR) was Friday, 1 July submitted the questionnaire by the deadline. At Wednesday’s meeting with enterprises submitting EKOMAR questionnaires, Statistics Estonia explains the importance of the collected data to enterprises and hopes to improve data collection in cooperation with them.
