Large enterprises account for a growing share of agricultural production in Estonia

According to the preliminary data of the Agricultural Census conducted by Statistics Estonia, there are 11,400 agricultural holdings in Estonia, which is 3,800 fewer than ten years ago. 84% of the agricultural output is contributed by 1,300 largest producers who use more than two thirds of the utilised agricultural area and account for more than a half of agricultural labour.

Crop farming survey

What kind of survey is it? The crop farming survey provides data about areas under cultivation and harvested areas of agricultural crops, production and yield, fertilisers, organic farming, liming, seed use, and autumn sowings of winter crops. A large part of the data are obtained from registers (for example, data on areas under cultivation received from the Agricultural Registers and Information Board and data on units that fill in the electronic field book in e-ARIB), and missing data are collected from respondents with the survey. In September, the share of trade with European Union countries increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in September 2022, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 14% and imports by 19% at current prices compared with September 2021. In the third quarter, exports were up by 16% and imports by 22%. Trade was mainly boosted by the increased exports and imports of mineral products as well as by rising prices in general.

Industrial producer price index rose by nearly 25% year on year

In December 2021, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 24.7% compared to December 2020 and by 5.3% compared to November 2021.

The construction price index took an upturn again

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2014, the construction price index changed 0.3% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2014 and -0.2% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2013.

Exports of services reached a record high in the fourth quarter

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the fourth quarter of 2023, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 5% and imports by 7% compared with the same quarter of 2022. Sales of services to non-residents totalled 3.1 billion euros and purchases of services from non-residents amounted to 2.3 billion euros at current prices. Total exports of services increased by 9% and imports by 8% last year.

Foreign trade declined further in September

According to Statistics Estonia, in September, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to almost 1.5 billion and imports to nearly 1.7 billion euros. Compared with the same month in 2022, exports of goods decreased by 24% and imports by 22% at current prices. The trade deficit in September was 207 million euros, which is 13 million euros more than in September last year.

Construction price index increased in the previous year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2008 compared to the average of the previous year, the percentage change of the construction price index was 3.4%. The index was mainly influenced by the decrease in the labour costs.
