How many people are affected by a planned new law or amendment? For an analysis of the impact of legislation, we compiled overviews of specific population groups. For example, we studied the coping of small ethnic groups and prepared overviews on the young. There were also summaries of social tax payments of sole proprietors compiled.

PHC 2011: households’ living conditions have improved since the previous census

According to the data of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011), 70% of private households live in dwellings with all basic amenities. In the 2000 census, that share was 65%. The availability of comfort characteristics in the dwellings inhabited by households has improved significantly in the last decade.

Estonia’s exports of services greatly exceeded imports of services

According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the fourth quarter of 2021, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 79% while imports of services fell by 23% year on year. In 2021 as a whole, exports of services grew by 47% and imports by 28% compared to 2020.

Long-term unemployment is increasing

According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate rose to 15.5% in the 4th quarter of 2009, the annual average unemployment rate was 13.8%. Almost one third of the unemployed have been unemployed for a year or more.

Decline in industrial production accelerated in April

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 15.1% at constant prices compared with the corresponding month of 2022. Output fell in all three sectors: by 22.0% in electricity production, by 14.7% in manufacturing, and by 9.1% in mining.

Gender pay gap has narrowed in a year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the gross hourly earnings of female employees were 13.1% smaller than the earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap decreased by 4.6 percentage points year on year.

The number of job vacancies decreased by a fourth year on year

According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2020, there were 8,689 vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 27% less than in the third quarter of 2019. The biggest labour turnover was recorded in wholesale and retail trade, manufacturing, and education.
