There will be no competition this year. Statistics Estonia has awarded the young statistician’s prize named after Albert Pullerits since 2011. Albert Pullerits (1892–1967) was the first director of the Estonian State Central Bureau of Statistics and the founder and developer of official statistics in Estonia. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2019, life expectancy at birth was 74.4 years for males and 82.8 years for females. Life expectancy has increased for both sexes, slightly more for males. Men are expected to live disability-free for 54.1 and women for 57.6 years.

Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the biggest increase was registered in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel, where turnover volume increased by 14% last year. “The volume of turnover was up by 4% in stores selling manufactured goods but decreased by 4% in grocery stores,” added Pihlak. Pihlak explained that the increase in the turnover volume of enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel was influenced by the lower reference base of 2024 and by the lower prices of motor fuels. According to Statistics Estonia, in the 4th quarter of 2010, the number of unemployed persons decreased to 93,000 and the unemployment rate to 13.6%. The annual average number of unemployed persons was the largest during the period after the restoration of independence in Estonia.
