Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the upward trend in foreign trade, which started in the second half of 2024, continued in January this year. “In intra-EU trade, exports were up by 11% and imports by 9%. In extra-EU trade, the rise was 19% in exports and as much as 57% in imports. According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2021, there were 10,542 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. The number increased by 30% year on year. More than 12,000 persons left their jobs on the employer’s initiative.

Exports of goods up by 12% in February

Evelin Puura, the foreign trade statistics team lead at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that Estonia's exports were significantly affected by the re-exports of previously imported goods which increased by 30% year on year. “The rise in re-exports was mainly due to transport equipment,” Puura added. Exports of goods of Estonian origin grew by 4% compared with February last year, accounting for 65% of total exports. According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2021, the Dwelling Price Index increased by 16.1% compared to the same quarter of 2020 and by 2.6% compared to the first quarter of this year.
