Robert Müürsepp, team lead of national accounts at Statistics Estonia, said that the preliminary estimate shows signs of improvement in the Estonian economy in the fourth quarter of last year. “There was no more major recession, as the seasonally and working-day adjusted GDP remained unchanged from the third quarter of 2024. Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the volume of turnover, which in March had grown by 2% year on year, showed slightly faster growth in April. “The increase in retail trade volume in April was driven by enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel and by stores selling manufactured goods – compared with April last year, their turnover volume was up by 18% and 7%, respectively,” explained Pihlak. According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the average expenditure of Estonian residents on overnight outbound trips was greater than in the period before the COVID-19 pandemic. The average spending on outbound trips has increased by 43% in the years 2018–2023. The number of tourists accommodated in Estonia has not yet reached the pre-pandemic level, but the share of domestic tourists has increased significantly compared with 2018.

Eveli Šokman, team lead of producer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, noted that, compared with January 2024, the producer price index was most affected by price increases in the manufacture of wood and wood products, repair of machinery and equipment, and mining and quarrying. ”Falling prices in electricity and heat energy production and in the manufacture of paper and paper products and fabricated metal products had the opposite effect on the index.
