According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2023, there were 11,079 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 17% less than in the same quarter last year. Over 6,000 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.

Today, on 17 October, Statistics Estonia and Enterprise Estonia launch the second stage of the Foreign Visitors Survey that started at the border crossing points of Estonia in the summer. The second stage will last until the middle of December.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2022, fish farming enterprises sold 801 tonnes of commercial fish and crayfish, for a total of 4.9 million euros. The sale of fish roe amounted to 2.7 tonnes. The sold quantity of fish farming production decreased for the third year in a row. The quantity of fish roe sold in 2022 was 8 times smaller than the year before.

Tea Vassiljeva, analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that the unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percentage points compared with the second quarter. “The number of the unemployed was 56,300 in the third quarter, and it has been slowly declining since the beginning of the year, but there were still 1,500 more unemployed persons than in the third quarter of 2023,” she said. In May 2022, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 3.1% compared to April 2022 and by 33.7% compared to May 2021.

According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments in January served nearly 194,000 tourists, which is 1% fewer than in January last year. The number of domestic tourists decreased, while the number of foreign tourists increased.

According to Statistics Estonia, more than 251,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in October 2023, which is 7% less than in October last year and 8% less than in September this year. Year on year, accommodation establishments hosted fewer foreign as well as domestic tourists.

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, in July, exports of goods grew primarily due to re-exports, i.e., the re-exports of previously imported goods increased by 26%. “The re-exports of mineral products (incl. natural gas) and transport equipment rose the most,” the analyst added. According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 5.7% at constant prices compared with the corresponding month a year earlier. Production increased by 19.3% in mining and by 2.6% in electricity production but decreased by 7% in manufacturing.
